That's what should be happening. Lance
Armstrong stole the title for 7 years from men that I sincerely hope
were not doping and honestly tried to win the Tour de France race.
Lance's attempt to redeem himself falls
far short of needs to be done. I personally feel that he needs to
host a part for the ones who lost to him, and personally hand over
the yellow jerseys that he obtained immorally to each of the ones who
did win the event fair and square. He should apologies to each of
them in person. They deserve more of an apology then the world does,
but he should not get off that easy either.
The World was defrauded out of a 'hero'
that Lance led people to believe he was. Lance should no longer be
allowed to compete in ANY sporting event. He should in fact be out
in the public doing events for non profits organization promoting
positive images and unique sports events for the next five years at
least. Any money he receives from this latest round of press and
events should be given to non profits.
But I don't think we should stop there.
Millions were made by the companies that sponsored him and they too
need to be held accountable. True, Lance lied to them, but did they
really care? Did they investigate him completely? Or as what is
normal, they saw a meal ticket and bought into the event acting as
most companies and people do, 'what I don't know, can't hurt me.' In
effect, they buried their head in the sand and just rode out the
money train.
I support business supporting the Arts
and Sports, but they too must take responsibility for promoting
someone. They should hold the person to the highest moral level that
can exist so that those who follow that current 'hero' are not lead
down a false road of myth and hypocrisy. Businesses need to be
responsible for their actions just as much as the 'hero' should be.
